Proud Red Rooster

My Mom has always, for as long as I can remember, had rooster decor in her kitchen.   Growing up on our farm, we had many chickens, and it was always my job to run outside and get the eggs.  It was such a boring chore back in the day for me, but now I realize just how nice it is to have FRESH eggs in the mornings!

I painted this rooster using one of my photographs taken of my Rhode Island Red Rooster named ‘Junior’.

Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Central Texas Real Estate Photography, & Lake Property

Working with the Steve Reitz Co, who specializes in luxury home remodels in the central Texas, Horseshoe Bay & Marble Falls Texas area, is always fun!  I enjoy seeing & photographing the newly remodeled homes, and hearing stories or meeting the people who live there!
This particular home has been owned by the same family for a couple generations, and they kept some of the old, while adding on.  Kudos to them for preserving some of the original features for their own precious family memories!

What a view to wake up to!IMG_3216-Edit

And they added some new details, like this custom outdoor kitchen.

And they added some large granite boulders, as well as sand for their own lake front private beach – great for the grandkids!

Hill Country Images: Visiting Mason Texas on the Hill Country Bluebonnet Trail

Sometimes in life you come to a crossroads.
We did that today while driving around looking at the wildflowers.

Shall we head towards Llano, or turn towards Mason?
Either way will showcase a colorful display of wildflowers, but on this afternoon, we chose Mason.   Mason is also known as the ‘gem of the Hill Country‘.

Wildflowers in Mason County

Since Fredericksburg is such a major Hill Country destination for many,  I think some of the neighboring towns may get overlooked at times.   But Mason is a beautiful and quaint country village, that is sure to please.  I’ve always enjoyed Mason.

Mason is rich in Texas History!
Did you know that Gen Robert E Lee spent time here?  Fort Mason (est. 1851) was his last post before he went back to defend his beloved state of Virginia during the Civil War.

Mason is the native home of famed writer, Fred Gipson, creator of “Old Yeller” & “Savage Sam”. Both novels became popular Walt Disney films.

You can read about Mason’s Hoodoo War here where famous gunfighter Johnny Ringo killed a man – but his first of many crimes had already begun in nearby Burnet Tx.   By the 1880’s Ringo became famous in Tombstone Arizona & was found dead leaning against a tree along West Turkey Creek – a somewhat mysterious death.

More info on Mason Tx

Abundant in architectural beauty, Mason’s charming downtown square hosts a diverse range of shopping, including natural Topaz gemstones, art galleries, antiques, as well as the Odeon Theater, and several restaurants.  Perfect for an afternoon stroll.

While driving through its neighborhoods, you may find some beautiful surprises and buildings with much unique character.

Mason3690The 1887 Seaquist House on Broad Street.  What a Texas treasure!  Visit their website for tours & more info.

The old 1918 Broad Street Bridge overlooking Comanche Creek.  Its over 100 years old.

I love the character and the back lighting, on this historical Church.   I arrived just in the nick of time as the sun was setting fast and the light was gone in a few minutes.  So glad I got this shot!

“Mason Bluebonnet Loop”
From Mason take RR 386, turn right on FM 2618, turn right on RR 1900, to Hwy 29 intersection.   Choose right to return to Mason or left to Llano.
From Mason to Llano … Hwy 29 often has good blooms.

My advice?  Don’t just drive through Mason, but rather, stop the car, get your camera out, and spend some time enjoying lovely Mason Texas!

Thanks for the perfect evening Mason!  We will be back, and next time we will try to stop & read more of those Historical Markers!

Bluebonnet Willow City Loop Oil Painting

I am loving these gorgeous spring-like days here in central Texas. They’ve inspired me to dig through my archived images and pull out a photo that I took a couple years ago on the Willow City Loop just north of Fredericksburg Tx.  I used that image as a reference for this new oil painting.

I’m thinking about calling this one, ‘Off the Loop’.

Its still on the easel, but its almost finished.

And its just in time for our 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Season!   I love this time of the year, and I can’t wait to drive throughout the Hill Country looking at this year’s crop of wildflowers!  Random Hill Country road trips are a lot of fun & good for the soul – and hopefully I’ll get some new photos too.

By the way, did you know Texas has a state flower song?
It’s “Bluebonnets.”
In 1933, the Texas Legislature adopted the song, which was written by Laura D. Booth and Lora C. Crockett.
Some lyrics:
‘When the pastures are green in the springtime
And the birds are singing their sonnets,
You may look to the hills and the valleys
And they’re covered with lovely Bluebonnets.’

Happy New Year!

I recently photographed a beautiful re-modeled home in Marble Falls.
What a gorgeous home!  All those fine details … large beams… did I mention that fabulous view of the lake?  Wow!
I really enjoyed my time spent there.
