Kathy Weigand
M. Photog. | Artist

A sixth generation Texan, Kathy Weigand was raised on a ranch just outside Fredericksburg Tx surrounded with her family’s Hereford cattle, Quarter horses, & the scenic Hill Country. The simple country & western lifestyle is part of her roots & is reflected in many of her original oil paintings & prints.

After college graduation Weigand was a full time bookkeeper and tax preparer, but she also enjoyed photography, design, and art. In 2001 she created HILL COUNTRY IMAGES, and within a few short years she closed her tax office doors to pursue art full time.

Since then, her images have earned numerous awards on the state, regional, and international levels, including several PPA Loan Collection Print Awards, the highest individual print award PPA offers.

Weigand has earned the coveted PPA Master of Photography (M. Photog.) degree. She’s hosted workshops, as well as private art lessons.

An invited guest speaker and judge, her images have been published by various media companies, used for large corporate advertising, public displays, business & home decor.

Weigand now also enjoys oil painting in her home studio or plein air. These oil studies are painted out on location along Texas Hill Country backroads or while traveling through the Rocky Mountains.

Creating a limited number of original studio oil paintings & commissions per year, Weigand prefers using a more limited palette, and enjoys watching a blank canvas come to life with interesting values, shapes, & colors.

Artwork has sold to clients across the USA.

KWeigand Studio is proud to help support our community! We’ve spearheaded and help raise thousands of dollars for our local pets (PAWS, SPCA), emergency medical fundraisers, local art school teachers, & churches.

Weigand is also a wild horse advocate. After a 2004 Wyoming photo expedition where she viewed her first wild horse herd, she has donated partial proceeds from her Wild Horse & Equine print sales to non-profits, such as The Cloud Foundation, who are dedicated to helping preserve safe #’s of America’s wild horses left – in the wild!
