Kathy Weigand
M. Photog. | Artist

A sixth generation Texan, Kathy Weigand was raised on the Rocking J Ranch just outside Fredericksburg Tx and grew up taking photos of their Hereford cattle, Quarter horses, and the scenic Hill Country.
The simple country and western lifestyle is part of her roots and is reflected in many of her original oil paintings and prints.

After college, Weigand was a bookkeeper and tax preparer but wanted to explore a more creative side. In 2001 she started HILL COUNTRY IMAGES, and within a few years she closed her bookkeeping/tax office doors to pursue art full time.

Her images have earned numerous awards on the state, regional, and international levels, including several PPA Loan Collection Print Awards, the highest individual print award PPA offers.

The PPA has awarded Weigand with the Master of Photography (M. Photog.) degree.

Weigand’s artwork has been published by various media companies, used for large corporate advertising, public displays, college, business & home decor.

Weigand now also enjoys oil painting in her home studio or plein air. Creating a limited number of original studio oil paintings & commissions per year, Weigand prefers using a more limited palette, and enjoys watching a blank canvas come to life with interesting values, shapes, & colors.

Artwork has sold to clients across the USA.

GIVING BACK:
We enjoy helping to support our local community! We’ve spearheaded and helped campaigns for our local pets (PAWS, SPCA), emergency medical fundraisers, local schools, & churches.

During a photo trip to the Cheyenne & Cody Wyoming rodeos in 2004, she also viewed her first wild horse herd at McCullough Peaks near Cody. After learning more about the plight of the wild horses through Emmy-winning filmmaker Ginger Kathren’s PBS series, Cloud The Wild Stallion of the Rockies, Weigand enjoys visiting wild horse herds and donates partial proceeds from her Wild Horse & Equine print sales to non-profits such as The Cloud Foundation, who are dedicated to bringing awareness and preserving safe numbers of America’s wild horses living in their natural wild state – left on the range.
