6×8 Original Oil: Spring in the Hill Country

Life is one big adventure and I’m always trying to absorb new things. Its fun trying out new oil painting techniques and I’m trying to learn how to do basic video editing too! lol!

I just recently added Gamblin’s NEO MEGILP medium to my oil palette. I’ve only used it a couple times (outdoors mostly), and so far, I LOVE it! Its easy to use/ transport for plein air painting here in the Hill Country.

Yesterday here in my studio, I decided to start a new small oil (6×8 on linen board) and grabbed the Neo Megilp instead of my old faithful mixed medium.

I’ve also been wanting to update my website with video clips, but I have to admit, I’ve never spent much time looking into video editing and merging clips, so I thought I would combine several new ideas into 1 evening! haha. What a day. So, I grabbed my cell and took a couple super short videos. This is a total experiment – whole new ground for me! Here we go…

I’m going to let the surface dry a bit and tweak the cloud highlights and a couple other things. But here’s a cell pic:

A couple years ago, my son and I were ‘hitting the backroads’ looking for bluebonnets & photo ops. It was one of those awesome evenings with dramatic storm clouds and fantastic golden light! I’m pretty sure he grabbed this shot with his window rolled down & camera hanging out the car. He has a good eye! Great memories.

This is just another reason why I love art so much. It offers us a reason to get out and look for the pretty things that surround us. Life is a journey.

Tiny Wedding, Elopement, in Fredericksburg Tx

Photography: Kathy Weigand M. Photog.
Venue: Cotton Gin Village B&B, Fredericksburg TX

I was delighted to meet Norma & Klint, and had the honor of photographing their small wedding here in Fredericksburg!  It was a beautiful day for their winter wedding and what a sweet, sweet couple!!!  We had so much FUN!

The rustic log cabins, water pond, wishing well, porches, and overall atmosphere of The Cotton Gin Village, which is right next to The Cabernet Grill Restaurant on Hwy 16 South, is a great location for small weddings as well as elopements!  There is a photo op around every corner.

It was a very blessed day … so full of love, beauty, and emotions!
THANK YOU Norma & Klint for letting me be a part of your AMAZING day!

Lone Oak – New Oil Painting! Hill Country Images in Fredericksburg TX

I really enjoyed painting this one.

I wanted to create a Hill Country landscape with simplicity, warm tones, as well as cool blue hues.  Its been so hot here lately with 100+ degree HOT summer days, I can almost feel a breeze hitting that tree. 🙂

‘Lone Oak’  6×8 oil on board

Its currently being displayed & available for sale at my good friends business, Donald Eckhardt Peach Orchards, located on Highway 87 S just outside Fredericksburg Tx.  In addition to artwork, they also have antiques, and some of the best tasting Hill Country Peaches around!!!!

Hope you enjoy this Hill Country landscape as much as I did while I was painting it!

Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Central Texas Real Estate Photography, & Lake Property

Working with the Steve Reitz Co, who specializes in luxury home remodels in the central Texas, Horseshoe Bay & Marble Falls Texas area, is always fun!  I enjoy seeing & photographing the newly remodeled homes, and hearing stories or meeting the people who live there!
This particular home has been owned by the same family for a couple generations, and they kept some of the old, while adding on.  Kudos to them for preserving some of the original features for their own precious family memories!

What a view to wake up to!IMG_3216-Edit

And they added some new details, like this custom outdoor kitchen.

And they added some large granite boulders, as well as sand for their own lake front private beach – great for the grandkids!

Bluebonnet Willow City Loop Oil Painting

I am loving these gorgeous spring-like days here in central Texas. They’ve inspired me to dig through my archived images and pull out a photo that I took a couple years ago on the Willow City Loop just north of Fredericksburg Tx.  I used that image as a reference for this new oil painting.

I’m thinking about calling this one, ‘Off the Loop’.

Its still on the easel, but its almost finished.

And its just in time for our 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Season!   I love this time of the year, and I can’t wait to drive throughout the Hill Country looking at this year’s crop of wildflowers!  Random Hill Country road trips are a lot of fun & good for the soul – and hopefully I’ll get some new photos too.

By the way, did you know Texas has a state flower song?
It’s “Bluebonnets.”
In 1933, the Texas Legislature adopted the song, which was written by Laura D. Booth and Lora C. Crockett.
Some lyrics:
‘When the pastures are green in the springtime
And the birds are singing their sonnets,
You may look to the hills and the valleys
And they’re covered with lovely Bluebonnets.’
